More damage against warriors, less damage against rangers. Meh.

Unless the warrior is using Dreadnought's Insignas (Armor vs Elemental) on every piece of his armor, the Ebon axe (earth) turns all physical damage on that weapon into elemental earth damage and bypasses their usual physical resistances.

While strictly speaking, any elemental mod will serve the same purpose, there are +10 AL shields of every variety. Unless you are running Conjure or a obvious elemental (fiery sword/axe, ice breaker, etc) no one will run a +AL shield to match your element. They will run shields to match your midline's element and the least likely shield they will have on will be +10 vs earth (if they even have a +10 earth shield).

Earth damage in particular is selected because it's the least common form of elemental damage for enemies to expect, it doesn't have a conjure, and earth nuking isn't exactly part of the high end meta, and neither are dervishes for that matter (who have an earth damage avatar).

Use your vampiric axe against rangers, that's why you bring more than one axe.

I'm pretty sure no one changes weapons when they switch targets, anyway. It's either zealous when they are low on energy, ebon/sundering/furious when they are running around/not hitting much, and vampiric when they are hitting stuff and are OK on energy.

wat
why would you not switch to an elemental mod when hitting a warrior
if they happen to be running radiants or survivors and not sentinels it's free extra damage

Teleports are cooler, sentinels is for pussies.
Laziness as a reasoning makes you a bad player with a shitty attitude, probably not wanting to improve.

I would just like to point out that if you're doing RA, then it is best to run a fiery weapon instead of ebon because of the off-chance of getting a teammate with Mark of Rodgort.

for warriors running sents at 13 str, introduce them to a devhammer, and free your elemental hammer... if you really want to run axe... just wail them down with vamp
fiery is bad in RA, everyone has fire shield because of the spamspam mb eles

What's the point in not being lazy if it means you're doing less damage?

Just to point out that in RA you are far more likely to run into fire eles, which means enemies are far more likely to sit in a fire shield.
Also seriously, Mark of Rodgort? Anyone changing their weapon mods because of one terrible skill is an idiot.
